Erosion

Erosion Protection

A critical phase in the establishment of any vegetation occurs between ground surface completion and the beginning of above-surface growth. It is in this period that the risk of erosion is greatest. Among the methods used to protect the surface and to control erosion are mulching, soil amelioration, binders, stabilisers and geo-textiles.

The Hydraseeders geo-textile is a glass fibre matrix or web bonded with bitumen emulsion and acts as both mulch and reinforcement. It is especially effective in protecting the surface against erosion by run off and in locations where other factors are the cause, soil creep for example. Soil ameliorants are useful where substitute soils such as sub-soils or spoils are the growing medium. Special soil ameliorants and conditioners can be specified into any of the Hydraseeders formulas in order to improve the water retention or soil structure.

Netting and Matting

With the recent advancement in the world of erosion control matting, hydraseeding has again shown itself to be an extremely effective way of vegetating a matted slope. Over the years Hydraseeders have worked in conjunction with all the main types of matting and proven that ‘if you can see through it we can seed through it’ and still get a full vegetative cover on the steepest of gradients
